Digital Expression
DXARTS 198B

Instructor: Maja Petric and Annabel Castro, DXARTS

This Discovery Seminar gives students the opportunity to explore and enhance their abilities for self-expression through audiovisual languages. Recognizing that participants are “digital natives,” this course is designed to expand their creative power for expression by exploring diverse approaches using a variety of media from light drawing to digital video. At the end of the class, students distribute their works as a movie, performance, or video documentation to the public both in cyber and physical space (for example, UW campus and through YouTube). Through this course, students will develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in self-expression via digital media; an artistic launch pad to the journey of self-discovery that is central to the undergraduate experience. Prior art experience is not required. Equipment including video cameras and computers with video editing software will be provided in the class. You can see student's work from last year here http://www.dxarts.washington.edu/courses/198b/2007/projects.html and http://www.dxarts.washington.edu/courses/198b/projects.html. or find it with keyword DXARTS 198B on YouTube.

This course can be used toward completion of the Visual, Literary, and Performing Arts (VLPA) requirement.
