The Department of Biology is the hub of the basic biological sciences at the University of Washington. With over 1,700 undergraduate majors, the Department of Biology is the largest undergraduate degree program at UW and the largest STEM degree program in Washington state. Through coursework, research, and internships, students gain the requisite knowledge and skills for careers in basic and applied research, education, health sciences, environmental sciences, science policy, government, business, and the non-profit sector. The hallmark of the Biology Department is its unwavering commitment to interdisciplinary & integrated training that capitalizes on strong relationships with partners and finding solutions to highly complex problems as a team.
