The Department of English,one of the largest departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, focuses on literature, rhetoric, culture, theory, criticism, history, pedagogy, and creative writing. The faculty includes three MacArthur Fellows and a National Book Award winner. Its Interdisciplinary Writing Program is a national model for effective writing instruction, and the Creative Writing Program is ranked among the top ten nationally by U.S. News and World Report. Alumni have translated their English degrees into successful careers in business, education, law, medicine, library science advertising, and journalism.
