Lance Kissler
Lance Kissler is the Executive Director of Marketing & Communications for the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington. Lance is responsible for the marketing and communications functions for the College, and works closely with College and University leadership to achieve strategic marketing & communications goals. He leads the College’s marketing and communications teams, which includes communications and outreach, visual design and brand consultation, and web strategy and services.
Lance brings more than 15 years of experience to this role, including prior experience at Eastern Washington University, STCU and Pacific University. He earned his Masters of Science in Communications and BA in Graphic Communications from Eastern in 2010 and 2004, respectively. He has also taught classes on social media, digital marketing and PR at EWU and Whitworth University as an adjunct instructor.
Lance is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice work, including past roles serving on the City of Spokane’s Human Rights Commission and various multicultural advisory councils. And as a member of PRSA since 2005, his work in the public relations profession includes serving on the Counselors to Higher Education section executive committee, as well as former officer roles with the Greater Spokane PRSA and Portland chapters.

Greta Essig
Greta Essig joined the College of Arts & Sciences as manager of strategic initiatives and special projects in June 2022. In this role, she helps Dean Harris advance her vision for the College by driving new initiatives forward and realizing their implementation through collaboration with the dean’s executive team and other stakeholders on campus.
Essig helped launch the college’s annual “Big Read” and the Dean’s Academy Futurists group, and supports all programming related to Rethinking the Academy. She shepherded the development of the College’s Guiding Principles and tries to embody those principles in her daily work. Her goals include helping to improve the status quo, generating solutions to short and long-term challenges facing the College, and championing innovation.

Helen Oland
Helen Øland serves as the Director of Information Technology at the College of Arts & Sciences. In this role, she oversees the strategic direction and operational management of the college's IT portfolio.
Helen works closely with university’s IT leadership and departments within the college to align computing resources with the College’s academic and research goals.
Helen's leadership extends to her participation in the Enterprise Technology Board at the University of Washington. This board governs shared IT services, including collaboration tools, servers, storage, and networking, which are essential for the university's operations. Throughout her career, Helen has demonstrated a strong commitment to leveraging technology to improve educational outcomes and streamline administrative processes. She is focused on fostering a secure and efficient computing environment while ensuring that the College’s technology infrastructure continues to evolve in support of research, teaching, and learning.
Prior to joining the College of Arts & Sciences at the end of 2019, Helen was the Assistant Director of Distance Education for Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business, Executive MBA Program (EMBA Americas). Her career in IT leadership spans more than a decade.
