David Hertzog, professor of physics at the UW, cant wait to find out how hundreds of researchers who worked on a geeky project known as the Muon g-2 Collaboration will react when they hear theyve each won thousands of dollars for that work. Hertzog is quoted. The UW's Eric Adelberger, professor emeritus of physics; Blayne Heckel, professor emeritus of physics; Lukasz Fidkowski, associate professor of physics; Jens Gundlach, professor of physics; and David Baker, professor of biochemistry in the UW School of Medicine and director of the UW Institute for Protein Design, are mentioned.

The University of Washingtons graduate and professional degree programs again were recognized as among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Reports 2026 Best Graduate Schools released late Monday.

"On Dec. 30, 2024, my mother, Brenda Louise Baker, died. I have known grief most of my life. I was 9 when my uncle died. By high school, death no longer felt shocking. It felt familiar. Four University of Washington researchers have been named AAAS Fellows, according to an announcement by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. They are among 449 newly elected fellows from around the world, who are recognized for their scientifically and socially distinguished achievements in science and engineering.

Anis Bawarshi, professor of English, was recently honored by the Conference on College Composition and Communication for representing “the highest ideals of scholarship, teaching, and service to the entire profession."

Between college and "the real world," design alum and animator Vivian Cho (BDes 2025) was the 2025 Artist in Residence at the University Bridge. Her final project will be on display at ARTS at King Street Station from June 4 through August 8, 2026.

Kristine Matthews, Professor of Visual Communication Design and principal of Studio Matthews, continues to earn national and international recognition for her work. She founded the Seattle-based design practice in 2008, building a studio of designers, teachers, and makers known for award-winning projects, elegant solutions, and a deep commitment to environmental responsibility.
