The UW has been ranked as the number 4 highed education institution in the United States in terms of total economic impact created as a result of federal research expenditures.

Four University of Washington faculty members are among the leaders in academia, business, philanthropy, the humanities and the arts elected as 2021 fellows of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honorary societies.

Grace Funsten (Classics PhD candidate) and Adriana Vazquez (who received her PhD in classics in 2017) have won the 2021-22 Rome Prize, a year-long residential fellowship at the American Academy in Rome.

Sophia Carey, a junior majoring in English and comparative history of ideas and minoring in theatre studies, was awarded the Beinecke Scholarship.

James Tweedie, professor of cinema and media studies, has been awarded a 2021 Guggenheim Fellowship.

Over 100 UW graduate and professional programs have been ranked by U.S. News & World Report to be among the top 35 in the nation.

Statistics PhD students David Marcano, Daniel Suen, and Hassan Nasif have recieved either NSF Graduate Research Fellowships or honorable mentions.

Alexandra Velian, assistant professor of chemistry, has been named a 2021 Cottrell Scholar by the Research Corporation for Science.
