For his UW master's in Scandinavian Studies, Estonian student Greg Rahuoja addressed political and practical challenges for Khanty, an Indigenous language spoken in parts of Siberia. 

The Dean's Academy Futurists — which includes faculty from across all four divisions of the college and from diverse disciplinary backgrounds — consider the future of higher education and liberal arts education. The Futurists are a part of the dean's Rethinking the Academy initiative.

A year-long cultural exchange between the indigenous Ainu community of Japan and several Washington State tribal groups, organized by the Burke Museum, culminated with a memorable canoe journey.

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at your favorite news station? I sure did and I got the opportunity thanks to the Department of Communication’s (UW COM) Career Exploration Tour program.

On May 12, I was one of seven students who toured Q13 FOX News studio in Seattle. We were greeted by UW COM alumna Kaci Aitchison, former anchor and current features reporter on Q13 FOX. Aitchison started out at 106.1 KISS FM and moved to the TV realm in August 2009 when she joined the Q13 FOX News team.

A childhood interest in astronomy, renewed in adulthood, led David Brooks to support postdoctoral fellowships in the Department of Astronomy.

Students in the Department of English have created an interactive map of site-specific poetry in Washington state.

Alumni in fields ranging from biotechnology to finance believe their UW English degree has been a valuable asset throughout their career.
