"I find theory of computation and logic extremely beautiful," says Sam Hopkins (BS, Mathematics, Computer Science), whose fascination with mathematics and philosophy have informed his computer science research.

Math Circles, led weekly by UW students, introduce middle school students to the joys of mathematics. "You have captured the fire in my child!" comments one parent, impressed by the program.

When 1,200 high school students descend on the UW campus for Math Day each year, they discover that math explains many things—including card tricks and a boomerang's flight path. 

During the Summer Institute for Mathematics at the UW, high school students spend six weeks exploring math topics with UW faculty and like-minded peers.
