Last year, as part of the launch of the “Rethinking the Academy” initiative, we held the first “Big Read” featuring The New Education by the renowned scholar and higher education innovator, Dr. Cathy Davidson. In addition to CAS faculty and staff reading the book, Davidson was invited to campus to address her College community and hold workshops for instructors.
This year, we would like to build on the themes in Davidon’s work and further explore the potential for transformation in the academy. We are looking for books that grapple with the challenges facing higher education but with an emphasis on new perspectives and proposed pathways forward, leaning towards solutions rather than critique. Like last year, we would like to invite the author or a related speaker to hold events with faculty, staff, and students.
