Six faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences, all parents of University of Washington students, discuss their dual roles as professors and parents. A&S staff/parents share their experiences in a related story. 

The College's four Dean's Medalists--the top student in each of the Arts and Sciences' four divisions--have madt of theire the mos UW education, exploring research opportunities and other offerings. The President's Medalist is an A&S student as well. 

A new Skyspace created by artist James Turrell explores the effect of light on space and perception. Located in the Henry Art Gallery's sculpture court, it is one of only four public Skyspaces in the United States. 

Anthropology professor Lorna Rhodes explores the challenges faced by prisoners and prison staff in a maximum security prison.

After Frith Maier retraced adventurer George Kennan's 1870 route through the Caucasus Mountains, the journey became the basis of her UW master's thesis and a new book.

When internationally acclaimed artists perform through the UW World Series, many also visit local schools or University classes through residencies. 

There have been big changes in the College of Arts and Sciences in the past few years as long-standing departments have joined together to create new, more effective units.
