The University of Washington has announced this year’s Awards of Excellence recipients, several come from the College of Arts & Sciences.

Fellows conduct research , co-author journal articles and policy papers, participate in meetings with high-level officials, contribute to congressional testimony, and organize briefings.

Faculty across the College recommend a favorite book related to their field.

"Learning another language is discovering another avenue for self-expression," says Joy Maa (Spanish, Japanese, 2014), who is fluent in four languages.

Oberlander, graduated with International Studies major and Japanese minor, returns to Seattle with a film to premier at SIFF on May 30.

Rain and wind didn't faze the Taiwanese Overseas Student Association (TOSA) as they held their first MAYniac Taiwan Carnival last Saturday. The event took place at the HUB Lawn and brought in a crowd of more than 1000 people.

Robert Stacey, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, announced the appointments of Betsy Cooper and Michael Shapiro to Divisional Deans of the Arts and Humanities, respectively. Both Cooper and Shapiro have served those positions in the interim since January, 2012.

Three UW faculty, including two from Arts and Sciences, have been elected senators of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation's most prestigious academic honor society. The election of three senators from one university is unprecedented.

Chris Hamm, professor of Asian Language and Literature, recently completed a book about martial arts fiction from China.

An ancient manuscript, recently acquired by the UW Libraries, offers new insights into the history of Buddhism.
