  • New funding supports growth of Canadian Studies Program, Foreign Language and Area Studies

    Two grants from the U.S. Department of Education International and Foreign Language Education office will allow the Canadian Studies Center at the University of Washington to award eight to 10 fellowships each year to students studying French or an Indigenous language spoken in Canada.

  • ICE appears to resume using Boeing Field; future operations in Yakima unclear

    U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement appears to have resumed flights to Boeing Field in King County after four years of using the Yakima Air Terminal. Angelina Godoy, professor of law, societies and justice and of international studies and director of the Center for Human Rights at the UW, is quoted.

  • 'We are still here' - the art and culture of Seattle's Sephardic community

    The UW hosted its first Sephardic art symposium, likely the first anywhere in the U.S. The event was called "Muestros Artistas," which means "Our Artists." It featured six Sephardic artists -- a mix of musicians, writers and painters from all over the U.S. Devin Naar, associate professor of history and of Jewish studies at the UW, is quoted.
