Floyd Jones honored his wife’s love of theater with a generous gift that made the School of Drama Playhouse Theatre renovation possible.

The School of Drama’s Playhouse Theatre, now the Jones Playhouse, has a long history that includes housing one of the few Negro Theatre Units of the WPA’s Federal Theatre Project in the 1930s.

After an extensive remodel—only the second in its 78-year history—the Jones Playhouse reopens in October with a host of improvements.

Through the School of Drama's Adopt an Actor program, donors are paired with an actor entering his or her final year of the Professional Actor Training Program.

Immediately after graduating from the UW School of Drama, 11 alumni founded Washington Ensemble Theatre, or WET. As they begin their third season, WET's members remain true to their original vision for the theatre. 

In a course offered by the Department of Classics and School of Drama, students study Euripides' Helen--and then perform it.
