A century ago, plastic was an exciting new discovery. Now it is used everywhere, from toys to food containers to medical supplies. The Burke Museum's Plastics Unwrapped exhibit explores our complicated relationship with plastic.

The student-run UW Film Club, described by one of its co-directors as "sort of a support group for film addicts," hosts film screenings, student film competitions, screenwriting workshops, and more.

Math Circles, led weekly by UW students, introduce middle school students to the joys of mathematics. "You have captured the fire in my child!" comments one parent, impressed by the program.

Athletes, ROTC students, young scholars, and returning students join with drama students to perform A U-Dubber Night's Dream, a Shakespeare adaptation that incorporates the experiences of UW students. 

The current financial crisis has renewed interest in the Great Depression, so a UW history professor has created a website about the period and the School of Drama has scheduled staged readings of two Depression-era plays.

A visiting artist in dance, a fall Chamber Dance Company concert, and a Wednesday University lecture series explore the role of the arts in dissent and social change. 

Floyd Jones honored his wife’s love of theater with a generous gift that made the School of Drama Playhouse Theatre renovation possible.

The School of Drama’s Playhouse Theatre, now the Jones Playhouse, has a long history that includes housing one of the few Negro Theatre Units of the WPA’s Federal Theatre Project in the 1930s.

After an extensive remodel—only the second in its 78-year history—the Jones Playhouse reopens in October with a host of improvements.

The new Northwest African American Museum opened in Seattle in March, with many A&S alumni among its dedicated staff.

Immediately after graduating from the UW School of Drama, 11 alumni founded Washington Ensemble Theatre, or WET. As they begin their third season, WET's members remain true to their original vision for the theatre.
