Honors and Awards

The UW has been included on the list of universities that produced the most 2020-21 Fullbright students. This year alone, 24 UW students received Fullbright awards.

Sam Colgan, junior majoring in English and Economics; Natasha Lavides, sophomore majoring in Psychlogy; and Nuria Alina Chandra, freshman majoring in biochemistry are the 2019-2020 UW President's Medalists.

Smadar Ben-Natan, a postdoctoral fellow in Israel studies in the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies, Holly Arsenault, director of engagement for the School of Drama, and José Alaniz, professor of Slavic languages and literatures have all recieved recent honors.

Elese Washines, who studied mathematics at the UW, is the current program manager for the Yakima Nation Higher Education Program and featured as one of the Yakima Herald's 39 under 39.

Ian Kretzler, a Ph.D. anthropology graduate, and Samson Jenekhe, professor of chemical engineering and chemistry, have been recently awarded honors.

Ashleigh Theberge, an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry, and Jodi Young, an assistant professor in the School of Oceanography, have been named 2021 Sloan Fellows.

Seven UW scientists were included on Cell Mentor's list of 1,000 inspiring Black scientists, including postdoctoral chemistry fellow Tam’ra-Kay Francis and Assistant Professor of mathematics Bobby Wilson.

Devin Naar, professor of history and Jewish studies, Melia Watras, professor of music, and Ted Poor, assistant professor of drums, have all received honors for their work recently.

Assistant Professor of chemistry Alexandra Velian has been named a Cottrell Scholars by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, receiving $100,000 for the continuation of her research and educational accomplishments.

Elena Erosheva, UW Professor of Statistics and Social Work has been named a member of the National Academies Committee on Increasing Diversity and Inclusion in the Leadership of Competed Space Missions by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Professor of philosophy Michael Blake's new book "Justice, Migration, & Mercy" has been named one of the Best of 2020 Philosophy from Oxford University Press.

Glennys Young, professor of history and of international studies and chair of the Department of History, was featured in a Spanish TV documentary about Cold War-era interrogation program, and the new Burke Museum was honored.

Assistant professor of music Ted Poor's album "You Already Know" has been named one of the top releases of 2020.

“You Already Know” by Ted Poor, assistant professor of music at the UW, is No. 19 in the list of best albums by Seattle artists in 2020.

Aseem Prakash, professor of political science, has received the 2020 Elinor Ostrom Career Achievement Award for his work in political science.
