Five UW graduate students recently developed The Pivot Project, aimed at combating human trafficking. Their weapon of choice? Design. The project won the 2013 Design Ignites Change Idea Award and is a finalist in the Industrial Designers Society of America’s Ideas competition.

Working closely with a Seattle artist with a prosthetic left arm, undergraduates majoring in industrial design tackled an unusual challenge in class last quarter, developing innovative designs for prosthetics.

The Willapa National Wildlife Refuge includes artworks created by UW students enrolled in a UW public art course. 

Photography professor Rebecca Cummins’ artwork at the Montlake branch of the Seattle Public Library is an aperture sundial that beams colorful circles of light into the building.

Through a new course, School of Art students designed rugs for clients and had them woven in Nepal.
